Remember when designing your website that home is not where traffic is. The first big mistake most of us make and keep repeating is that we call our home page home. You surely do not want your home page to rank for the word ‘Home’ until and unless you cater to real estate information or anything else to do with home. Your home page should be visited for the primary purpose of your site. So label your home page in such a way that it is relevant to your business. For instance if you are a florists site, label it as the Florists in your target locality for maximum relevant strikes or visitors.
Do not have a generic Meta tag on each page. Since the pages of your site are not similar and have details of various other services and products. Then why have similar tags for all pages. Have a distinct and unique Meta tag for each page and it is sure to pull the target audience. Use the right key words effectively for the tag on each page. The tag should rightly describe the content of each page as well.
‘Click here’ may be a user friendly term on a particular page of your web site but it is definitely not good enough for the search engines and does not serve any purpose since it does not say what the page is about and is not good from ranking point of view as well.
SEO is not a once done forget it process. It is very dynamic as the search algorithms are changing almost on a daily basis and so are the key words. Your competitors are also not merely waiting for the traffic to flow their way. They are always thinking of innovative ideas to attract more and more traffic. So, optimization strategy on the web sites change almost as often as the corporate strategy.
Do not be impatient with rankings and SEO ranking. They take some time for sure but if the tools are well utilized, results are sure to show!
